About our Founder
Elizabeth Rubinstein is the founder of The Orchard Institute. She is an alumnus of the prestigious teaching program, Teach for America and earned her Master of Science in Teaching from Fordham University, with a concentration in teaching English as a Second Language. Throughout her career, she has worked with students across grade levels from diverse language and cultural backgrounds.
She began teaching 5th and 6th grades in the low-income school systems of Harlem and Queens in New York City. During her time, she taught large classes typically up to 30 children, most of whom were recent immigrants and English Language Learners in a classroom. By setting high standards and creating personalized learning journeys for each child, she was able to advance almost all of her students at least 1.5 years in reading comprehension and meaningfully raise their writing and math scores. She continues to maintain a close relationship with many of her students.
Elizabeth moved to Singapore in 2016 and provided private tuition for children across many of the international schools and also provided English Language learning courses for adults.
In Singapore, she met her husband and eventually moved back to the US. In the US, she provided private tuition at her home part-time while she was a law school student.
Elizabeth and her family returned to Singapore in 2020 and is now happy to call it her home for the foreseeable future. Elizabeth has two children, age 1 and 3, and 1 Labrador retriever.
Elizabeth has a deep passion for education and believes in celebrating each child’s strengths and creating a nurturing, engaging environment where students can grow and feel emboldened to take ownership of their learning.

The Orchard Institute is a premier Singapore tutoring service operated exclusively by teachers with master’s degrees. We offer one-on-one private tutoring to provide students with a variety of subjects.

The Orchard Institute was founded to create a new and innovative tuition service in Singapore.
As a master’s level educator, former private tutor in Singapore, and new mom, Elizabeth recognized that many of the existing services did not provide the quality of learning and experienced teachers that Elizabeth would demand from herself, expect for her children, and experienced interacting with during her time teaching in New York and in graduate school.
The Orchard Institute is staffed entirely by highly qualified teachers with masters degrees and experience either in the classroom or with private tuition.
We focus exclusively on in-person learning. While the pandemic undoubtedly created new avenues of online learning, in our view, it reinforced the importance of in-person learning and engagement for our children.
We will go above and beyond to not only ensure students meet their academic goals, but also enjoy a positive, fun, and fulfilling learning environment.
