Early Childhood

The earliest years of life are full of rapid changes and challenging transitions. Do you find that you and your child are in need of extra support? If yes, an early childhood tutor can assist you in your specific needs.

Maybe you find that your child is having difficulties in social circumstances or at school? Or perhaps you have been informed or have an inkling that your child is not on track with specific developmental milestones such as verbal communication?

Maybe you have noticed that your child is not mastering life-skills such as tying their shoes, writing with a pencil, tidying up, or lack of hand-eye coordination?

Or last, maybe you are a stay-at-home mom who isn’t quite ready to enroll your child in daily pre-school but would like a weekly break away from your child knowing that he or she is being stimulated positively in an academic environment?

Let us help you. We will happily provide your child with developmentally appropriate instruction and positive reinforcement needed to set them up for success.

Executive Function and Emotional Intelligence

Executive Function

Executive functioning skills are the brain skills that everyone uses to complete tasks in our daily lives. They are the processes of the brain that allow us to plan, organize, problem-solve, and manage our thoughts and actions.

Does your child struggle with any of the following: time management, task-initiation, self-control, study habits, attention, metacognition, organization, perseverance, flexibility, or working memory? If yes, we can teach your child specific skills to address their needs so that they can better accomplish tasks and be more independently successful in their daily life.

Our goal in creating an executive functioning curriculum has to do with our founding philosophy, which is to help children develop responsibility and independence.

By building upon executive functioning skills, children become more accountable for their actions and ultimately improve their academic performance and emotional wellbeing.

Emotional Intelligence

Having emotional intelligence is one of the most important factors of life. Thus, we believe this is a crucial subject for children of all ages. In our lessons, we introduce emotional intelligence vocabulary and teach students how to reduce/diffuse conflict, problem-solve, communicate effectively, and support themselves or others.

Many children struggle with emotional regulation, coping with problematic situations, confidence, articulating their feelings, rising to action in chaos, and/or social anxiety. Teaching them to acknowledge and be cognizant of emotions allows them to voice what they are experiencing confidently and to take positive and effective action when they feel stuck.

Alternatively, if you find that your child already thrives in social situations, there are still benefits to teaching your child emotional intelligence.  Teaching them how to identify and process emotions of those around them better prepares them for future challenges in school, work, and social environments.

Reading and Writing

Reading

What does it take to successfully develop literacy skills in our young learners? These five pillars make up the essential building blocks: comprehension, fluency, phonemic awareness, phonics, and vocabulary.

For younger students, introducing the concept of reading and language successfully is essential to ensure successful reading instruction. We use many techniques including structured word inquiry, guided oral reading, phonics instruction and phonemic awareness to effectively teach students how to read.

For older students, listening and processing what is being read or said is crucial for academic success, but some students have difficulty processing texts at a deeper level. We facilitate their learning by teaching key comprehension strategies, how to make inferences, text-to-self connections, text-to-text connections, text-to-world connections, point of view analysis, and more.

Writing

Writing can be a source of frustration for students for a number of reasons. Some students have trouble planning what to write, organizing their ideas, creating their voice, self-monitoring while writing, and/or revising their ideas. While other students need more assistance with how to record their ideas due to their frustration with spelling, phonemic processing, handwriting, vocabulary acquisition or sentence sequencing.

We are here to help and can provide a broad scope of assistance based on the individual needs of our students. We want our students to feel empowered to explore their creativity and write freely, successfully, and most importantly, happily.

Math and Financial Literacy

Math

Learning math can be a daunting and challenging task for students who struggle with mainstream learning, larger class instruction, or the style of teaching instruction provided. Do you find that your child is in need of extra support in math? If yes, a math tutor can assist you in your child’s specific needs.

Multisensory math is a three-dimensional sequential way to study math. It is efficient because it encourages the use of touch, sight, hearing, and movement when learning and teaching a new concept.

Often, children who struggle to pay attention in class, have difficulty with the memorization of a concept, or take longer to understand an equation from start to finish need this approach via one-on-one instruction in order to connect the dots. Since math is based on building blocks, we pride ourselves on finding where we need to intervene and help students grow in their quantitative abilities and confidence in math.

Financial Literacy

Financial Literacy is one of the most fundamental skills we can teach our children in order to help them to understand the value of money and create positive financial habits. Yet, surprisingly, it remains an untaught subject in school. Help your child start the process of understanding the importance of their finances early.

We provide students with meaningful instruction to ensure they are knowledgeable enough to go into the world having a strong understanding of the following: budgeting, finding percentages, financial planning, debt, financial goals, fixed vs. variable expenses, needs vs. wants, credit, taxes, currency, payment methods, and more.

We can provide your child with developmentally appropriate instruction and positive reinforcement needed to set them up for success.
