Testimonials

Liz is a teacher that simply oozes care and love for her students.

“She does anything in her power to help her students achieve more than they believe they can in school. More importantly than her success in the classroom, she has taught her students how to be better people, how to treat themselves and how to treat others. I know that her impact on her students will be long-lasting. From creating a cohesive, strong classroom community to managing with her firm Texan accent to laughing with her students, I know Liz will be a teacher her kids will never forget.”

Liz has proven herself to be a dedicated teacher.

“She has established a wonderful rapport with all her students and sincerely cares about each child that is in front of her on a daily basis. She can always be counted on to give complete cooperation and 100 percent of her effort in any given situation. Liz has grown a lot this school year as a professional and as a teacher. She accepts constructive criticism very well and will do her best to implement recommendations by not only her supervisors, but by her colleagues as well. She quickly earned the trust and respect of the teachers in her building and has become a perfect fit for the fifth grade team. Liz represented Teach for America very well!”

I have had the pleasure of observing Liz implement the aforementioned teaching philosophies in her classroom.

“Liz taught fifth grade ESL at P.S. 143, located in Corona, Queens. As soon as you walked into her classroom, you could feel the love she has for her students. She doesn’t just teach her students English or Mathematics; she teaches them about life. She equips them with life lessons that they greatly appreciate and carry with them every day. If you ask any student in Liz’s classroom why they enjoy learning from Liz, they would likely say that it is because there is never a dull moment. Liz brings material to life with her sense of humor, and powerful life values and morals. Every action she takes, every move she makes, she thinks about her students. Whether it was the school’s musical theater production or spending time tutoring students after school, to writing personalized notes in each of her students’ books, Liz is there for her kids. I am so proud to have worked with Liz, and I look forward to seeing the great feats that she will accomplish in the classroom in the years to come.”

An exceptional 5th grade teacher, you will experience her love for helping others.

Ms. Slagle (Now Mrs. Rubinstein) was an exceptional 5th grade teacher to me during her time at P.S. 143Q. I was a student who was shy and who was new to the culture, but her ability to make sure her students felt comfortable, safe and empowered all at once exceeded all expectations. Ms. Slagle pushed everyone to be the best version of themselves, and I believe that because she pushed me so much, I was able to accomplish so much in my personal and educational life. For anyone who comes across her, you will experience her love for helping others, and you will be impacted in the most positive way every day after that.
